Saratoga Masjid: A Vision for the Future Focused on our Youth. Towards self-sufficiency through rental income. Alhamdullilah, in just 3 years since inception, the Saratoga Masjid has become an active and vibrant community that provides sustained and focused guidance to pre-teens, youth and the entire family. Our focus is to build the Islamic identity and character of families, especially our youth. Under the guidance of Sh. Aladdin El Bakri, the community has thrived. The attendance at Jummah and Taraweeh prayers is over 300 people. But more importantly there are 70 pre-teens between the ages of 9 years and 12 years that attend weekly sessions. And over 100 people attend every Friday night an interactive program to build strong families. Our vision now is to take this thriving community to the next level. We have entered into an agreement to purchase 1.2 acres of land in Saratoga to create: 1. Pre-Teens and Youth Center: A first of its kind, 6,000 sq. ft. center devoted to ensuring that our youth have a place of their own where they can play, have fun and learn in a safe and Islamic environment. 2. Masjid: A 2,000 sq. ft. Masjid for the five daily prayers. The Pre-Teens and Youth Center will be used as additional space during Jummah and Ramadan Taraweeh. 3. Retail Space: 4,000 sq. ft. of retail shops that will provide ongoing rental revenue to the Masjid and Center. The rectangular lot faces Saratoga-Sunnyvale Road (De Anza Blvd.) and is just 1 block from the current Masjid, and very centrally located just ½ mile from Highway 85 on one of the main thoroughfares in the area. The lot currently has a small building where prayers can start immediately upon the close of escrow. The facility is zoned C-V (Commercial-Visitor) and requires a Use Permit from the City of Saratoga. We have already met numerous times with the City officials and Planning Department and have received positive feedback about this project. The cost of the land is $3 million. $2 million is due by November 15, 2010 and $1 million will be carried interest-free by the owner for 2 years and payable by November 2012. This is a unique opportunity – where folks can contribute to starting a center focused on the vision for the future of our community. We invite Muslims from all over the Bay Area to join us in supporting this vision for a center that is focused on Pre-Teens and Youth.
